A Survey for Recognition on the Community Based Rehabilitation in Physical Therapists of Seoul Metropolitan Public Health Center

Abstract
Background and Purpose: In order to survey the recognition of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) by Public Health
Center (PHC) Physical Therapists in Seoul Province, this study analysed the general characteristic of physical therapists in cognition, participation, education, problems and requirements for CBR.

Subjects and Methods: The subjects of this study were 34 therapists who had been working at PHC in Seoul Province and Seoul City Municipal Hospital. Data were collected from 5 Jan. to 31 Feb. 2009 and results as followed;

Results: 1. The age category between 30s and 40s represented 41.3% of the total number studied. 45.6% of therapists had worked more than 10years and typically 43.4% of therapists had worked more than 10 years at the PHC. The 7th grade of medical technical class in a position were most as 39.1% but 13.0% were non-regular workers and a period of over 5 years was needed for the promotion in 32.6% cases. 2. The most common type of treatment was therapeutic exercises as 30.4%, major recipient was elderly person higher than 50.0% and the number of the treatment of one day was higher than 20~30 people. 3. 21.7% of therapists were aware of the CBR, 30.4% of them had gotten the information from co-worker when we researched and 43.4% had important services. 4. For CBR, 30.4% had positive ideas in which they could participate. 34.7% desired more educational opportunities about CBR. 5. The most important requirement for taking part in CBR as Physical Therapists was job security.

Conclusion: Most of them want the interchanges of personnel and information in the PHC and metropolitan hospital. Factors inhibiting the execution of CBR were lack of administration support, physical therapists and equipments.
